CROSSTIDE edition by Joan Dial Literature Fiction eBooks
In the classic tradition of the great English novel Jane Eyre, this fascinating mystery centers on the reclusive scarred writer Adrian Brand and the beautiful young woman Eden who takes on a job as his assistant. She has agreed to the employment in exchange for the services of P.I. Nick Calder after being fired from her job as a jewelry designer, due to being framed for the theft of a blue diamond ring. As Nick works to find the culprit who planted the ring in the lining of Eden's purse, Eden becomes involved in an investigation of her own--finding out the truth behind the apparent suicide of Adrian's late demented wife.Attracted to both the older disfigured artist and the young handsome kindhearted P.I., Eden goes through several harrowing experiences, such as being thrown in the ocean and left to die in the desert, before all the questions are anwsered, including those of her own heart.
Powerful characters, mounting intrigue and a dramatic conclusion make this a novel hard to put down. Joan Dial can take her place among the great English novelists, out of whose tradition she comes.

Crosstide by Joan Dial
Another good read from Joan Dial. A fascinating mixture of crime and romance with great characters to boot! The insight into the art of writing appealed to me too also I'm fascinated by new words and expressions and just had to look up the term "roman a clef." I like the way the books are downloaded with a dictionary, it was great to be able to so easily find the meaning of an occasional unfamiliar word. It makes me want to buy a so that I don't have to read sitting at my computer!
I give Crosstide by Joan Dial 5 stars - look out for the twist in the tale at the end!
Falsly accused of theft and desperate to prove her innocence, jewelry designer Eden seeks the help of Nick, a private detective/surfer, whose sideline is crime scene cleanup. He suggests she go to work for one of his former clients, a reclusive, badly scarred author, Adrian, who has terrified all of his previous assistants. Nick likes to surf from Adrian's private beach.
Eden soon realizes that Adrian's current novel is a thinly disguised account of his torrid love affair with a femme fatale that ended when his yacht exploded and he was badly burned. She also learns the author's wife committed suicide, but as she works on Adrian's manuscript she begins to wonder if the author may have killed his wife. Despite her suspicions she is fascinated by Adrian, but strongly attracted to Nick.
Several frightening events indicate someone does not want Adrian's novel published. What became of the femme fatale? Did she bear Adrian a son? Has she returned and does she see Eden as a rival? Someone dangerous lurks in the shadows, determined to scare Eden away, as Nick strives to prove her innocence.
Crosstide is fast-paced with unexpected twists and turns and a surprise ending.
